Challenging, fast, and hollow left-hand reef break on Sumba’s coast. Requiring steep drops and offering rides up to 150 meters, it featuresthroaty barrel sections and punishing walls. Best suited for advanced surfers, it requires quick timing and works best on a mid-tide.
Getting to Racetracks
Racetracks is located on the island’s southeastern coastline. Therefore, you need to first fly into Waingapu Airport. Once you are on Sumba, you can either rent a car or hire a driver. You must drive southward for approximately 2 to 3 hours across the island’s eastern savanna to get to the surf break.
What to Pack
- Enough water for a day trip (ideally 3 to 4 liters per person)
- Backup boards (if possible), since the nearby surf infrastructure might be limited
- Snacks and food
- Emergency medical kit
