FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Indonesia visa.
Do I need a visa to visit Sumba?
It depends on your nationality. Citizens of a limited number of countries (mostly ASEAN members) can enter visa-free for up to 30 days. Over 80 countries qualify for Visa on Arrival (VoA/e-VoA). Use the search tool above to check your country, or visit the official immigration website.
What is the difference between VoA and e-VoA?
They are practically the same. e-VoA is applied and issued online before arrival; VoA is obtained at the entry point. With e-VoA you skip the queue at immigration. Both are valid for 30 days and can be extended once.
Can I work in Indonesia on a tourist or business visit visa?
No. Tourist and business visit visas do not allow employment. To work legally in Indonesia you need a work permit (KITAS) with RPTKA approval and employer sponsorship.
Is there a digital nomad visa for Indonesia?
Indonesia recognizes a remote-worker pathway (E33G) for foreigners working for an overseas employer while staying in Indonesia. This is the most relevant option for digital nomads. See the Remote Worker section above.
Which visa is more suitable for investors or future property owners?
Depending on the stage: Business Visit (C2) for meetings; Pre-Investment or D2 for evaluation; Investor KITAS for long-term ownership. See the Investor section above.
Where should I check the latest official rules?
Always verify with the Official Website of the Immigration of the Republic of Indonesia or your embassy 4–6 weeks before travel. Country eligibility and requirements can change.
What happens if I overstay my visa in Sumba?
Overstaying is expensive and can lead to deportation or a travel ban. The fine is IDR 1,000,000 (approx. $65 USD) per day. You must pay this at an immigration office before departure. Since there is no immigration office in Sumba, you would need to travel to Kupang (West Timor) or your point of departure from Indonesia (e.g., Bali) to resolve it.
