To support the year-end travel peak, Tambolaka Airport in West Sumba reported a record-breaking increase in daily flights from Denpasar and Jakarta. The expansion of terminal facilities has now allowed for larger aircraft types to land, effectively doubling the passenger throughput compared to late 2024.
Recently, the Ministry of Transportation had designated five new international airports on nearby islands. With these new international gateways, air traffic to Sumba will potentially increase even more.
