Matawai Bus Terminal, located adjacent to Waingapu’s traditional market, is the primary hub for inter-regency bus travel across Sumba. It offers connections to several key destinations, including Anakalang, Waikabubak, and Waitabula. Passengers traveling to Waitabula will experience a route that passes through Anakalang and Waikabubak before reaching their final destination. Fares are generally under $5, making it an affordable option for travelers. Buses typically depart early in the morning, between 6 and 8 AM, due to the extensive travel time required to reach other regencies. As a result, the terminal tends to be empty by the afternoon. Despite being older and less functional than in its prime, the terminal continues to provide essential transportation services. While it may not be as modern as other facilities, it remains a crucial part of the regional travel network, ensuring connectivity across Sumba.
