Pasar Baru
By 2022, most vendors had relocated from the old market to Pasar Baru, the new traditional market in West Sumba. Situated just a brief 10-minute drive from downtown Waikabubak, Pasar Baru has swiftly emerged as the largest and most comprehensive market in the region. Pasar Baru is meticulously designed to cater to a wide array of vendors, serving as a bustling epicenter of local commerce. It features dedicated sections for fresh produce like vegetables, fish, chicken, and meats. On market days, vendors from various districts converge here to showcase and sell their agricultural products and livestock. Additionally, the market hosts small shops offering a diverse selection of spices. A notable highlight of Pasar Baru is its dedicated section for Sumba textiles, where visitors often procure ikat fabrics for traditional ceremonies or as meaningful gifts for their loved ones. With ample parking available for both cars and motorbikes, Pasar Baru provides a convenient and vibrant shopping experience that significantly enriches the daily life of the community.
