Tirung Beach is a stunning strand with iconic rock formations, white sand and turquoise water. It is a secluded and highly underrated destination. The beach is ideal for swimming, spending quality time with your family, and taking lots of unforgettable photos.

How to Get to Tirung Beach

Tirung Beach is located in West Sumba, NTT. The most common route is from Waikabubak town. You can go there by Motorbike/Car from Waikabubak, head south toward West Lamboya district the specific place is in Gaura. The trip takes around 1 a half hour. The last few kilometers are dirt road and can be rough, especially in rainy season.

Please use Google Maps with “Pantai Tirung” but also ask locals once you reach West Lamboya, Gaura, because signal can be weak

Is Tirung Beach worth visiting?

Yes. Tirung Beach is worth visiting if you like quiet, natural beaches without crowds. The sand is white, the water is clear turquoise, and the cliffs around it make it really photogenic. It’s not commercialized yet, so it feels very untouched. Best for people who want peace, and sunset views. Just don’t expect fancy resorts here.

Are there any facilities near Tirung Beach?

Facilities are very limited. There are no restaurants, warungs, or toilets right at the beach. Sometimes local residents sell drinks or snacks, but don’t count on it.

Bring your own water, food, sunscreen, and trash bag. The nearest warungs and homestays are in Lamboya Bawa District or back in Waikabubak.

Can I get to Tirung Beach with public transportation?

Not directly. There are public bemos/trucks from Waikabubak to Lamboya District, but from Lamboya district to the beach you’ll need an ojek/motorbike taxi or walk about 30-40 minutes.

Most visitors rent a motorbike or hire a car and driver from Waikabubak for the day. It’s much easier and saves time.
