The 50’s latest list of the world’s top 50 hotels ranks NIHI Sumba number 35. Beyond its luxury amenities, NIHI is widely recognized for its deep ties to the local Sumbanese community and sustainable model. Through the Sumba Foundation, NIHI funds local education, healthcare, and a successful malaria eradication initiative that has dramatically reduced the impact of the disease and eliminated it entirely in several parts of the island.
The latest global rankings also reflect a broader industry shift toward Asia, which claims 7 of the top 10 and 9 of the top 15 hotels on the same list. This regional shift points to strong prospects for Sumba’s continued presence on international hospitality rankings in the years ahead, potentially opening the door for other local properties to follow suit.
