Home Sumba Places Natural Tanadaru National Park

Tanadaru National Park, located in the Umbu Langgang subdistrict, is one of the largest national parks on Sumba Island. Stretching approximately 4 to 5 kilometers along the main road leading eastward, the park is commonly referred to as Tanadaru Forest by locals. This park is a favored destination for both residents and visitors, renowned for its towering trees that captivate photographers and nature enthusiasts alike. The park is home to around 118 protected plant species, including Toona sureni, Sterculia foetida, Schleichera oleosa, and Alstonia scholaris. Additionally, it supports 87 bird species, seven of which are endemic to Sumba Island, such as the Sumba yellow-crested cockatoo, Sumba green pigeon, Sumba flycatcher, Sumba cicadabird, apricot-breasted sunbird, and Sumba hornbill. The park also hosts 57 butterfly species, with seven being endemic. There is no entry fee to visit Tanadaru National Park, making it easily accessible for travelers passing through on their way to other regencies on Sumba Island.
