Waihibur Church

Located just a two-minute drive from the public hospital in Central Sumba Regency, Waihibur Church stands majestically with a striking blend of modern and Sumba architectural styles. The church features three towering roofs designed to resemble traditional Sumba houses, reaching toward the sky, creating a visual connection to the region’s cultural heritage. A distinctive Sumba motif encircles the cross on the wall, adding an element of local artistry and cultural significance to its design. Recently renovated, Waihibur Church is now the largest Christian church in Central Sumba. The structure boasts tall pillars painted in maroon, while the walls are a crisp white, symbolizing the colors of the Indonesian flag and embodying national pride. The interior is just as impressive, with spacious halls and carefully crafted details that create a serene and welcoming atmosphere for worshippers. The church is open to the public only on Sundays for worship services, drawing a large congregation each week. On other days, it serves as an office and administrative center, maintaining the church’s operations and outreach programs.
