Lake Bidadari Maharani is located in Praibakul Village, Wanokaka District, West Sumba. The journey to the lake involves traveling along a bumpy road with typical mountainous ascents and descents, marked by a sign on the main road. This route leads through lush forests and rolling hills, culminating in a picturesque and tranquil setting at the lake. The lake is steeped in local legend, including the story of a majestic white crocodile said to inhabit its waters, revered as the king of crocodiles in Wanokaka District. Another poignant legend tells of Princess Maurani, a beautiful princess who, thousands of years ago, chose to end her life in Lake Maharani. Remarkably, the water level remains constant throughout the year, neither overflowing during heavy rains nor diminishing during droughts. The water cannot be diverted despite the lake’s elevated position, adding to its mystical allure.
