Wenei Weaving Group
The Wenei Weaving Group is based in Praibakul Village and consists of a dedicated team of housewives who gather every afternoon to weave together. The group includes 12 women, each contributing their skills to create textiles adorned with traditional West Sumba motifs, such as the Pasola horse, Mamoli, and chickens. Their beautiful weavings reflect the rich cultural heritage of the region. Prices for their handcrafted textiles start at approximately $25 USD. This pricing reflects the quality and intricacy of their work. The group benefits from support provided by the West Sumba government, which helps them sustain their traditional craft. In addition to their standard offerings, the Wenei Weaving Group welcomes custom orders from customers. Customers can either choose from existing designs or bring their own materials, which the group will then weave according to their specifications. This flexibility allows for personalized and unique creations tailored to individual preferences. Their efforts not only preserve the cultural traditions of Sumba but also provide a source of income for the local women, contributing to the community’s economic development.
