About Watu Maladong

Watu Maladong is a dramatic rocky beach located at the southwestern tip of Sumba. Unlike typical sandy beaches, the landscape here is dominated by clusters of massive rock formations sea stacks standing firm amidst the crashing waves of the Indian Ocean, creating a wild and magical atmosphere.

How to Get to Watu Maladong

Located approximately 57 km from the center of Tambolaka, the journey takes about 1.5 to 2 hours by car. The route passes through the traditional villages of Kodi. Using a private vehicle is recommended, as there is currently no public transportation to this remote area.

Yes. Watu Maladong is worth visiting if you like dramatic coastal scenery. The beach is famous for its big “standing stones” / rock formations along the white sand. The water is clear and the place is very quiet. It’s perfect for photography, nature walks, and sunset. Don’t expect crowds, it’s still very natural.

No. There are no facilities at Watu Maladong Beach. Make sure to bring your own food, water, and take all your trash back with you.
