Home News 2026 May Indonesian National Armed Forces and farmers team up in East Sumba to boost rice harvest and drive food security

A local territorial defence management officer, Serma Daniel Umbu Ndawa, directly assisted farmers with the rice harvest in Kaliuda Village, East Sumba, to support regional food security. The officer helped operate a modern combine harvester to aid the farmers. Beyond the physical work, the TNI’s involvement aims to motivate local farmers and foster a strong sense of community cooperation.

Agriculture is the primary source of income in the Pahunga Lodu District, making increased productivity vital for local welfare and steady food supplies. While modern tools are introduced, farmers still face challenges like weather risks and high production costs, requiring continued synergy between the government, the military, and the community.
